At least 34 people were killed and more than 50 injured when a suicide bomber targeted members of an anti-Taliban militia who were attending a funeral in Pakistan's restive northwest region on Wednesday. The bomber targeted the funeral prayers of the wife of Hakeem Khan, a leader of the 'peace committee' or anti-Taliban militia of Adezai, a tribal area near Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.

A bomb blast ripped through a mosque within a Sufi shrine at Nowshera in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, killing at least 10 persons and injuring 30 others. The powerful blast targeted the mosque inside Akhun Punjo Baba mazar (shrine) in Akbarpura area of Nowshera, nearly 15 km from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa capital Peshawar.Scores of people were offering Friday prayers at the mosque while hundreds had gathered to take food from a 'langar' or community kitchen.

Pakistani security and intelligence operatives detained a US national in Peshawar for not possessing valid travel documents and took him to an undisclosed location for interrogation, officials said. The American, identified as Aaron deHaven, was detained in the posh University Town area of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The Taliban on Monday warned the Pakistan government not to release American national Raymond Davis, who allegedly shot dead two men in Lahore in January, saying any official involved in a move to free him would be killed by militants. "Any Pakistani government official playing any role in Davis' release will be killed by the Taliban," said Azam Tariq, spokesman for the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan. The Taliban have also demanded that Davis should be executed by the authorities.
